EPA Administrator Jackson, White House CEQ Chair Sutley and NEEF in Baltimore Monday to Announce Fund Towards Public Lands

U.S. EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley, and the nonprofit National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) will join officials from Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. in Baltimore, MD on Monday, December 12 to announce funding from Toyota for capacity-building grants for community-based organizations supporting parks and other public lands. This public-private partnership, part of President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors initiative, comes at a time when public lands are in need of financial and volunteer support amid tight budgets at the federal, state and local levels. Following the announcement, students will participate in an educational tour of Fort McHenry along with the Friends of Fort McHenry group, which organizes educational programming for Baltimore city schools, living history activities and interpretive exhibits at the fort.

Thirteen Baltimore companies were honored today by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake as winners of the 2011 Mayor's Business Recognition Awards for community service by members of the private sector.

 

The awards for outstanding corporate leadership, commitment to community and dedication to improving the quality of life in Baltimore City were presented by the mayor to winners during luncheon ceremonies at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.

 

The annual awards event is presented by the Greater Baltimore Committee and the Baltimore Development Corporation.

The awards were presented during November 17 ceremonies honoring minority-owned and women-owned firms for achievement and others for their efforts to strengthen minority business development. The event was held at the Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel.
