The 2012 African American Festival celebrated Black History Month Saturday February 25th at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. The Black History Celebration, hosted by Verizon, motivated 1,667 in a celebration of music, dancing, and words of inspiration.


The 2012 African American Festival celebrated Black History Month Saturday February 25th at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. The Black History Celebration, hosted by Verizon, motivated 1,667 in a celebration of music, dancing, and words of inspiration. Groups of all ages enjoyed the museum's exhibits while learning about black history and participating in various educational and entertaining activities being offered throughout the day. The 2012 African American Festival's team was on-hand to share this year’s theme: A celebration of Life, Music and Culture, as well as engage in civic action and volunteerism.

Author Chris Hicks, in partnership with AAMBC, The Frederick Douglass-Isaac Meyers Maritime Park and Universal Publishing Co. LLC in Association with The Greater Baltimore Urban League and The Big Brother/Big Sister of Central Maryland announced today the 2nd Annual Baltimore Urban Book Festival would be held on Sunday May 6, 2012 at 1pm-8pm, at the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park, 1417 Thames St, Baltimore, MD  21231. This event is going to be an enjoyable evening as celebrated will be Baltimore’s first and only book festival focusing on African American literature. Featured will be some of the country’s most influential bestselling authors; Omar Tyree, T. Styles, JM Benjamin, Kiki Swinson, Miss KP, Tamika New House, Trice Hickman, Nicola Mitchell, Chris Hicks, Ladawn Black and Nikki Turner, with more authors to be announced.

The Women’s Challenge Hosts Masquerade Benefit November 18 at Parkville Heritage Gardens


The Women’s Challenge, Inc:  Mind, Body & Spirit will host a Masquerade Benefit to ‘Live Life’ on Friday, November 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at Parkville Heritage Gardens on 7631 Harford Road in Baltimore.  The inaugural, black tie event will support education and wellness programs for women and children and feature jazz and soul singer Maysa and author, speaker and coach, Cheryl Wood as host.
