Sports showdown is part of day long citywide anti-violence activities
SwaggNation, Inc., a leading youth empowerment organization, presents the Kurk Lee vs. Sam Cassell Stop the Violence Basketball Game on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Coppin State University, Auxiliary Gym, 2500 W. North Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21216.
The basketball game will be the culmination of a day of dynamic activities geared to bring awareness to the general public, especially young people, about the problem of violence in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
“It seems like all of our lives have been touched by senseless and random violence,” said Ian Yearwood, founder of SwaggNation. “The Stop the Violence Basketball Game was developed to encourage and inspire positive thinking and actions among youth.”
According to news reports, Baltimore City ranks 8th in a poll of “Worst Cities in the United States.” SwaggNation hopes to turn that perception and reality around by providing a positive venue to curb violence.
Geared to youth and young adults the “Stop the Violence Basketball Game” will include a youth exhibition game and feature a full court celebrity basketball game including a spectacular half-time show featuring Baltimore Club dance troupes, T.S.U. (3 time Baltimore Dance Grand Champions), The Dramatics and the 2012 King & Queen of Baltimore. There will be special appearances by Radio One personalities, well known local entertainers and area political figures that support the stop the violence cause.
This event is FREE and open to the public. The basket ball game will be held from 5-9 pm. The Coppin State University Auxiliary Gym is accessible from the corner of Warwick Avenue and Gwynn Falls Parkway. MTA and parking is also available to the public.
