Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced the release of a detailed report, which tracks the activities and progress of the City’s Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) over the course of the past year. The SART is a multi-disciplinary team with key stakeholders from law enforcement, the State’s Attorney’s Office, the medical community, and local victims advocates. The team has been working cooperatively since July 2010 to address the City’s handling of rape and sexual assault cases, following a Baltimore Sun investigation that revealed that Baltimore had the highest percentage of unfounded rape cases of any city in the country for the past four years.

 
Morgan State University Studies The Drinking Behaviors of Students at HBCUs

Researchers at Morgan State University have launched a survey to study the drinking behavior of students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The Century Council (TCC), funded by leading distillers to fight drunk driving and underage drinking, is funding this research project. The research which is being conducted by Dr. Linda Loubert of the Economics Department at Morgan State University is believed to be the largest national study ever undertaken on alcohol use and drinking patterns among students attending HBCUs.

Maryland Among Top States for Black-Owned Businesses, according to Black Enterprise


The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development today announced that nine Maryland firms made Black Enterprise Magazine’s annual list of Top 100 Largest Black Businesses for 2011, ranking the State third for the most companies on the list. The companies report a combined revenue of $1.5 billion and more than 2,000 employees.

 
Sister Soldier Project Returns to Morgan State University

On April 30, 2011, in celebration of the 85th anniversary of the Alpha Gamma Chapter at Morgan State University, the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will return from all over the country, gathering to participate with the national Sister Soldier Project in a very special Packing Party event for our Sister Soldiers overseas.

The women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and friends will pack and ship 500 boxes to our "Sister Soldiers" overseas, containing ethnic hair care products, products unavailable to the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airwomen through normal channels overseas, plus other personal care and entertainment items. As a personal touch, each box is topped off with a handwritten note from the event, expressing gratitude for the soldier's service to our country. Participants will also include members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. who are current students and Alumni of Morgan State University, Student Volunteers from Morgan State University and other community volunteers.
