National Urban League Young Professionals to Hosts National Day of Empowerment Themed The New Black Wall Street

SHARE

National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP) chapters nationwide in partnership with the National Council of Urban League Guilds will engage in an annual Day of Empowerment on Saturday, November 18. Chapters will host events, in partnership with National Urban League Guilds and Entrepreneurship Centers, that educate both chapter and community members about circulating their dollar in local communities. As our theme suggests this year we will build upon the lessons learned from “Black Wall Street” with a focus on the following:

  • Creating intentional space and opportunity to empower and support aspiring & thriving black & minority entrepreneurs and businesses
  • Financial education to empower young professionals and communities at large.

In the early part of the 20th century the community of Greenwood in Tulsa, Oklahoma was known as “Black Wall Street.” This community was given this name because it had a thriving business district featuring African-American owned businesses and had a strong middle and upper class.

For more information and a listing of chapter events contact NULYP Programs Chair, Ashlee Young atprograms@nulyp.org. Official hashtags for this nationwide series of events are #NDOE17, #BeTheMovement and #reclaimingourdollar.
